New Face Around Our Space: Emma Domby

Meet fifth grade teacher Emma Domby (rhymes with Zombie)! Emma was born and raised in Atlanta, GA about 3 miles away from TCS. She went away after graduating high school to attend college in New York, study abroad in New Zealand and Ecuador, teach in Costa Rica, and work as a park ranger in California and Utah. Ultimately, she missed her native home and moved back to Georgia to teach and get her masters in social work. Emma spent the last year working with families and children in a therapeutic setting after getting her LMSW.

What are you most excited about this year?
I am super excited to be back in a school community again (after 3 years of not teaching) and working for a school that truly understands children and the value of play and the outdoors. I’m so excited to get to know my students and their families.

When you’re not at school, where can we find you?
Walking my dog on all of the paths in Atlanta or working outside in my backyard. If it’s a longer break, you will find me on a plane or in a car headed to travel somewhere. When I am not teaching or doing therapy I like to hike, canoe, kayak, walk my dog, garden in my backyard, play with my nephews, read, eat chocolate and take naps in the sun.

Where is your favorite vacation spot?
I don’t have a favorite vacation spot but my ideal way to vacation is to get in my car with my tent and drive to as many national park sites as possible so I can hike, camp and see as much of the world as possible.

Which fictional character would you most like to meet?
I would want to meet Anne Shirley from Anne of Green Gables. I wanted to be her growing up because she had such an incredible imagination and adventuress spirit.
