Service Learning Opportunities at TCS Atlanta

March is an exciting month for service learning at TCS! We have two upcoming projects that our community will participate in, both helping to broaden students’ awareness of the issues of hunger and homelessness and the connected issues of food waste and food science.

On March 16, the Middle Grades students will lead an all-school service learning day called, “Soup & Science.”  MG students have been learning about issues surrounding food and water such as access, politics, safety, and nutrition and are planning mini-lessons to teach younger students about these issues throughout the day. After the mini-lessons, students will be led through a collaborative soup-making project. Students will enjoy the soup we make, and extra soup will be donated to Atlanta Mission. You will receive details on how each child can participate in the soup making and donate to Atlanta Mission from classroom room parent(s).

On March 31, TCS is invited to participate Atlanta Children’s Shelter’s Annual 5K Bunny Run. TCS has partnered with Atlanta Children’s Shelter for previous service learning events, and we look forward to continuing to support and partner with them again. Join the TCS team and help meet the needs of children and parents experiencing homelessness. The race is Sat., March 31, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in Piedmont Park. We will meet as a group in front of TCS’s main gate at 1:15 p.m.

Information on registration and how to sign up for the TCS team can be found here.

Advantages of a Private School Education

Eleven TCS middle school students stand together on a sandy beach in Costa Rica, smiling at the camera while holding shovels and garden tools. One student holds a colorful sign reading "Tortuga Vavero." The group is surrounded by tall palm trees with a dramatic cloudy sky and rough ocean waves visible behind them, suggesting they have been working on a beach conservation or service project. Driftwood and coastal debris are visible along the shoreline in the background.

A group of young students sit and kneel on the floor of a warmly lit, attic-style classroom, each working with a small yellow and black bee-shaped robot on a large printed mat covered in images. The cozy room features a wood-paneled sloped ceiling with string lights, and shelves filled with art supplies and materials line the walls in the background.
