Buddy Bench Building Kicks Off This Saturday! (1/30)

Grade-Level Auction Project Brings BCC Curriculum to Life this Year!

This year, instead of doing our traditional grade-wide art projects for the auction, little buddies and big buddies are teaming up to create buddy benches!

What are buddy benches you ask?

A buddy bench is a special, comforting place in a school playground where a child can go when they want someone to talk to.

Buddy benches are distinctively different from other seating in the school and will be designed and painted by the TCS big buddy/little buddy pairs. These benches are situated in open and well-traveled areas of the school so that any child using the bench will be noticed quickly. When a child feels the need for a friend to talk to, he or she can find solace in visiting a buddy bench! Other children and staff will recognize this as a sign that some help, support, or comfort is needed and will come to talk with the child.

Big buddy and little buddy groups will have two benches to decorate and paint and then they will be auctioned off on March 19th at the TCS Auction. Winning bidders will keep one memorable bench for their home and donate the other bench back to the school.

We need your help this Saturday building benches and getting them ready for the kids to paint!

We’ll meet Saturday, January 30th at 9am to build in the gym. Our agenda for the day includes building, sanding and priming. There are 9 benches total to be built.

If you have a cordless drill, electric sander with 120 grit sandpaper (or similar), extension cord, paintbrush or drop cloth, please bring them along.

We’ll also talk about painting inspiration, ideas, and plans. No need to RSVP, just come prepared to have fun and lend a hand on Saturday!
