When Bethany Jennett (TCS ’24, Woodward Academy ’29) graduated from The Children’s School, she wasn’t sure what to expect from her next chapter. Transitioning from a progressive Atlanta middle school to a more traditional high school setting felt daunting, but Bethany quickly realized she was ready.
Feeling Prepared for High School
“I was a bit nervous about the workload,” Bethany admits. “But once I got to Woodward, I felt really ready and prepared. The first few weeks gave us time to adjust, and when the work got harder, I was able to handle it because of what I learned at TCS.”
Time management was one of the skills that made the biggest difference. “At TCS, they really prioritized how we managed our time. That helped me balance everything when things got busy.”
Building Community Through BCC
TCS’s focus on Building Character and Community (BCC) traits also shaped Bethany’s experience. “At Woodward, I didn’t know many people at first. But because of what I learned at TCS (caring for others and creating community), I was able to make friends quickly. I knew how to build connections and make it feel like home.”
What She Misses Most
While Bethany is thriving in high school, she still treasures her TCS memories. “The atmosphere at TCS was special. It’s a close community where you know everyone’s name. I really miss that.”
Her favorite tradition? The camping trips. “Sapelo was my favorite. We were all so close by then, and those trips gave us the best memories.”
A Foundation That Lasts
Bethany’s story highlights how The Children’s School equips students with the academic skills, time management strategies, and community values to thrive in any environment. Whether in a progressive classroom or a traditional high school, TCS students carry forward the confidence and resilience they need to succeed.
