TCS Voices 2024-25: A Joyful Year for Chorus at TCS

By Kyle Bynum, TCS Music Specialist

This year’s TCS Voices season was truly special, marked by two standout performances: a winter concert and a spring concert. With no spring musical on the calendar (as it became a dedicated Middle Grades production), we had extra time to focus on building choral foundations and preparing for these two major shows — and the students rose beautifully to the challenge.

Throughout the year, I watched the singers grow in musical skill, confidence, and independence. They mastered harmonies, learned to hold parts in rounds, and performed entire pieces from memory. Just as importantly, they grew as a community — learning to listen, collaborate, and celebrate each other’s strengths.

What makes Voices especially unique is its multi-grade makeup. This year, the friendships and mentoring between older and younger singers shone through, creating a tight-knit, supportive ensemble that was a joy to work with.

The winter concert was highlighted by a moving performance of “Walking in the Air” from The Snowman. After watching the beloved animation together, the students connected deeply with the song’s wonder and storytelling, bringing a magical atmosphere to the show. For the spring concert, they channeled their excitement for the upcoming Wicked movie by performing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” a heartfelt nod to The Wizard of Oz that they took on with pride and joy.

More than anything, I’m proud of how this group has grown not just as musicians, but as people. Singing together across two major performances taught them patience, empathy, resilience, and teamwork — and this year’s Voices choristers showed all of that and more. It’s been an incredible joy to watch their voices and friendships flourish.
