When Chris Broyles (TCS ‘23, Galloway ‘27) reflects on his time at The Children’s School, two themes stand out: confidence and connection. From managing assignments to building relationships, Chris says TCS gave him the academic and social-emotional foundation to thrive in high school.
Ready for the Workload
Chris credits TCS with teaching him how to manage time and stay organized. “At TCS, we had homework almost every day and big projects that taught me to plan ahead,” he said. “At Galloway, teachers give you an assignment and expect you to know when to do it. TCS prepared me for that.”
That early structure also helped him make the most of study time. “I knew to use study halls to get my work done, not just talk with friends,” he said.
Prepared to Participate
Beyond academics, Chris felt ready to engage confidently in the classroom. “I knew how to talk to teachers and ask questions,” he said. “Raising my hand and speaking up—teachers really appreciate that.”
Learning by Doing
Chris also highlighted the impact of TCS’s project-based learning (PBL) approach. “At TCS, we did hands-on projects that connected to real life,” he said. “That helped me in high school science labs—understanding what I’m learning and how to apply it.”
Memories That Last
Of all his TCS memories, the 8th-grade backpacking trip tops the list. “It rained on us, and we all got soaked,” he said, laughing. “We huddled together to stay warm and waited for the sun to rise and for pancakes in the morning. It brought everyone closer.”
Advice for Current TCS Students
“Enjoy the moment,” Chris said. “Have fun on the camping trips and field days. Don’t take the community for granted—it’s really special.”
After 12 years at TCS, Chris still feels deeply connected to his teachers and classmates. “Leaving was hard,” he said. “But I was ready. TCS prepared me for everything that came next.”
