Lynn and Joe’s fourth graders created knee braces as a part of their project-based learning (PBL) unit on bones and muscles. The students studied the range of motion in a healthy knee and the range of motion of an injured knee, so they could design a knee brace. Before they designed the braces, they studied different materials to figure out which materials they could use to make a knee brace.
Earlier this month, the students met with a representative from Bauerfeind, a company that makes supports, orthoses, medical compression stockings and orthopedic supports, to ask questions. The students took the input and created their prototypes.
Today, Ellen and Ashley from Bauerfiend visited the class to view the prototypes and critique the designs.
Way to go, fourth graders!
