Today, we’re introducing you to Danielle Reed, a third-grade teacher!

This year marks Danielle’s 11th year of teaching! This is her second year as a full-time teacher, but she came to TCS in 2014 when she stepped in as a long-term sub. Before TCS, Danielle taught in Bunn, NC and Jupiter, FL where her classes ranged from sixth-grade language arts to twelfth-grade British literature.

What skills do you hope your students will learn by the time they leave your classroom? How are you preparing them to learn these skills?
I hope my students learn to be critical thinkers and keep asking questions. I hope they develop collaborative skills to effectively work with others throughout the rest of their careers at TCS and beyond, and most importantly, I hope they develop a deeper sense of empathy for others.

What about teaching makes you excited to come to school every day?
From the moment I stepped foot on TCS campus, I knew it was a special place. The sense of community and genuine interest in others is not something you find on every campus. I feel like I leave home every morning to go to my second home! I’m excited to come to school, because every day is a new day, and every day I’m given another opportunity to inspire and be inspired by those around me.

If you could meet any fictional or historical figure, who would it be?
If I could meet any fictional character, it would be Atticus Finch from “To Kill a Mockingbird, and Tom, from “Uncle Tom’s Cabin.” Both characters are unwavering in their devotion to justice and are courageous when facing adversity.

What is something none of your students know about you?
Something my students don’t know about me is that I can write backward as fluently as I can write forward.
