Sixth Grade-Hosted Service Learning Day, Sept. 24, 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.

The Sixth Grade’s Project-Based Learning Unit, “A Place of Refuge,” will culminate in a Service Learning Day for the TCS community on Saturday, September 24 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Students have planned activities and experiences for TCS families that raise awareness and provide service for refugees, including:
  • A bake sale and concession stand with all proceeds being used to purchase items for the Refugee Resettlement Shop at the International Rescue Committee
  • A station for the creation of Hope Boxes to be sent to children in refugee camps through Operation Refugee Child
  • Two different refugee simulations
  • A Gallery Walk of related student work
  • Refuge Coffee will have a coffee/tea cart, to benefit refugees in ClarkstonThe Sixth Grade is now accepting donations for items to be included in the Hope Boxes for refugee children. Donation boxes can be found in the gym lobby, main office and on the porch of Katie and Todd’s classroom in building C.

    All items should be NEW and small enough to fit inside a shoe box:

  • Children’s travel-sized toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush/comb, shampoo, soap, sunblock, lotion, barettes/hair bands, washcloth, socks, child’s poncho, etc.)
  • School supplies (pencils, erasers, crayons, notebooks or drawing pads, small rulers, etc.)
  • Small toys (jump rope, bouncy ball, bubbles, matchbox cars, yo-yo, doll, etc.)We are also accepting donations of additional shoe boxes or other small boxes. We will accept any donations on or before Saturday, September 24.
