This year marks the third year The Children’s School will participate in Maker Faire Atlanta, a family friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness. The festivities run Oct. 1, 10:00 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Oct. 2, noon – 5 p.m., at downtown Decatur’s Ebster Gym.

About Maker Faire
Maker Faire is a place where people show what they are making and share what they are learning. Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers. They are all ages and from a variety of backgrounds. The aim of Maker Faire is to entertain, inform, connect and grow this community.

About Innovator’s Playground
Innovator’s Playground is a maker space created and run by TCS that is designed for elementary-aged kids and their families. Innovator’s Playground shows students how creative and powerful their thoughts and ideas can be through fun activities and demonstrations.

Activities
This year, MakEdu, the educational department affiliated with Maker Faire, and TCS have teamed up to bring visitors The Innovator’s Playground, an indoor making environment for young makers; the Maker Courtyard, an outdoor maker space for large activities; and the Maker Playground, an outdoor field designed for larger play activities.

New This Year
Along with being housed in a new facility, Ebster Gym, and additional making spaces, MakEdu and TCS are launching guided tours of the Faire for educators. This gives educators the opportunity to have up-close and personal interaction with select Makers, as well as hands-on activities.

After the tour, participants will go to the “Educator’s Playground” maker space to ‘play’ using the tools and materials provided. Also, select speakers will engage our participants in DIY, making and project-based learning. You can sign up for a MakEdu Educator Tour here.
